Pontesbury Potter

The 2010 Potter will be held on Saturday 13th March. Details and entry form will be available from December 2009. Total funds raised this year (2009) will be confirmed when the accounts are done, but it is looking like a record amount, exceeding £3,700 after purchase of the Pots. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the day a success.
We were heavily over-subscribed and will once again be restricting entries to 500 next year so make sure to enter in good time to be sure of a place.
The Potter should have its own dedicated website soon the address will be www.pontesburypotter.co.uk However the current address will be maintained for as long as deemed necessary to provide a link to the new facility.

The Pontesbury Potter is a Mountain and Valley trail, suitable for runners and ramblers, which is planned and organised annually by Wendy-Jane Walton, who arranges a different trail each year. Map reading skills are not required, as full route directions are provided, and confirmation markers are placed at strategic points. All the proceeds are donated to charity, the only expense incurred being the small dishes awarded to any pre-entered walker/runner who wishes to order one.

Charities which have benefited since 1996 are as follows

1996 Air Ambulance £530 (117 finishers)
1997 Hope House £745 (153 finishers)
1998 Hope House £600 and Hospice £600 (228 finishers)
1999 Hope House £1000, Air Ambulance £470 (275 finishers)
2000 Hope House £1000 and Hospice £661 (299 finishers)
2001 Will finishers top the 300?  (Sadly not, event cancelled due to Foot & Mouth)
2002 All records broken. The weather was not good, but the support from you all was tremendous, with times ranging from just over 2 hours to just over 9 hours.
Charities to benefit were Hope House £1000, Hospice £700, and Pontesbury School £50.
2003 Further record breaking ?  Alas No the weather put a bit of a damper on things, however there were still 278 hardy souls who walked and ran the 13 miles, and in the process raised £1560.50 which will be divided equally between Cancer Research and the Air Ambulance.
2004 Another record breaking year, with 327 starters, 2 more than 2002. Even the weather was on its best behaviour. The Sum raised this year is £1795, of which £1000 will go to the Shropshire & Mid Wales Hospice, and £795 to the Air Ambulance.
2005 All previous records smashed with 386 starters, the weather was rather cool, but the clear air meant some superb views of the Shropshire landscape. Sum raised this year is £2150 which will be distributed as follows.
Cancer Research £500, MacMillan Cancer Relief £500, Severn Hospice £500, and Hope House £650. This follows the counting of your votes.
2006 This was Alan's final 'Potter' and the turnout exceeded all expectations with 422 starters. The weather managed to behave in spite of the dire forecasts and everyone returned dry, well except for their feet.
The sum raised  after payment for the pots was £2310 and, due to the overwhelming number who chose it, all the proceeds are going to Hope House Childrens Hospice.
Following this years Potter the small band of 100% "Potterers" were invited by Alan to a cup of tea in the local pub where he presented them with a special pot inlaid into a turned piece of wood which had been rescued from the wood pile which we have regularly passed on various Potters either on the  way out or the way back. Is there no end to the mans talent. Alan was also presented with a jug by Wendy-Jane, which had been thrown by the same potter who has provided the pots since the start.
2007 Wow, what a start for Wendy-Jane, 525 starters and nearly £3000 raised. The charities to benefit will be the Severn Hospice & The Air Ambulance, each receiving £1400, with the residue being donated to Pontesbury School Eco-Lab.
my first Potter as organiser, and I was thrilled to see 525 people turn out to enjoy the day - over 100 more than in any previous year, and it would not have been possible without the help of an army of family and friends. The wind was stiff in the middle section of the course, but with excellent views, and everybody completed. Fastest time 2:17, longest time out 7:42. Distance 13.7 miles, 2321 feet of climbing. We have raised over £2900 after purchase of the pots (exact amount to be confirmed), and the funds will be divided as follows: £1400 each to Shropshire Air Ambulance and The Severn Hospice, incorporating the new Telford Hospice Appeal, and the remainder to the Mary Webb School eco-lab. I enjoyed myself so much that I plan to do it again next year, with a few amendments based on suggestions received. Keep a date for your diary, March 8th 2008. My thanks to everyone who helped and took part, and especially to Alan for patiently answering all my queries and doing the course twice in one week. Hoping to see you again next year.
